Tonight’s episode marks a kind of homecoming for Dinner and movie as it resumes its usual Tuesday night time slot for the first time since August. Since then, the series has shifted from weekly to monthly installments and organically strayed from its pandemic onset schedule, every Tuesday night, for a variety of reasons, from co-opted holiday celebrations to presidential debates. Now, again, Tuesday night is for the Phish. It’s the little things.
It should be noted that episode 30 also marks the first time Dinner and movie will present a show from the “Phish 2.0” era, a term that generally describes the period of about two years between the end of the band’s first hiatus in 2003 and the start of their “breakup” in 2004. From a point From a visual standpoint, this means that we hope to get video quality closer to what we’re used to in 2020 than footage from the amphitheater lawn that typically accompanies web 1.0 broadcasts. For reference, 07/25/03 took place less than two weeks before the 2003 Phish festival, THIS, which was beautifully captured for a PBS documentary.
Dinner And A Movie returns this Tuesday and will feature July 25 of Phish’s 2003 Summer Tour. Order a Bee Tour Summer 2003 t-shirt (chunky, classic and ladies’ fits available) to commemorate the night and tune in this Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. ET: https://t.co/5IU7Qar4bk pic.twitter.com/LkKbwEvuHD

The quality of play during 2.0 often varied considerably from show to show, but the summer 2003 campaign contained more than a few standout performances, tonight’s offer included. After a good Monday — Wednesday, stand at Deer creek, the band were hot and ready to tear up the opening notes Friday in Charlotte.
The momentum was immediately evident on 07/25/03 as Trey Anastasio, Jon fishman, Mike Gordon, and McConnell Page ripped into the opening combo of “Funky Bitch” and “Chalk Dust Torture” with mid-show intensity. A 2003 relic, “Two Versions of Me,” served as a gateway to an emphatic 18-minute “Bathtub Gin”. “Limb By Limb”, “Horn”, “Golgi Apparatus” and “Character Zero” closed the first strong frame.
The second set started off much like the first, this time with the first performance of “Drowned” since before the break (and a scorching one, too). In fact, the grimy and sinister funk groove of the “Drowned” jam set the stage for a rare and unusual “Kung” (the first since 1999) which will serve as a stopover on the way to “Twist”. Even the “Heavy Things” breather builds up to a nice little top.
Of course, most remember this show for its unprecedented 29 minute “Harry Hood”, the first of two two-jewel “Hood” jams (with the Camden version of 07/31/03) played in a single week. . which remain the highlights of the tour. There’s also the bestial “David Bowie” coming out of “Hood” to close the second set, a powerful, multi-sectional version that stands out from the best of them – and features a brief full-group drop in “Tweezer. For good measure. It’s 50 minutes of some of the most exciting improvisation phish of all time. Buckle up.
