When hockey is out, the Leafs will play. Video games, what. Well, they will definitely give it a try. A Toronto Maple Leafs video game stream starring Mitch Marner, Zach Hyman and Frederik Gauthier aired on Twitch today and, to be honest with you, it was a hilarious mess.
The stream, which was scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 27, started slowly.
Hyman and Goat were online on time, ready to play, but Marner was nowhere to be found.
When the 22-year-old winger finally joined his teammates, he explained his late arrival was due to server issues.
Both Marner and Hyman ran their own streams, leaving fans wondering who to tune in.
Sadly, the all-star trio continually faced audio issues, with fans only getting to hear one from Marner or Hyman, depending on which stream they chose to watch.
One thing the supporters made loud and clear, however, was Mitch’s rude mouth.
“Everyone says watch your tongue, I think I swore,” Marner announced after glancing at the cat.
“I said the S word, it’s not a curse, are you kidding me?” he added.
And all of that, after he gave his girlfriend Stéphanie Lachance a hard time for dropping the same S-word earlier in the stream.
Thanks to Marner’s initial absence, one lucky stranger even got the chance to momentarily play Call of Duty with Hyman and Gauthier.
Later, during their Fortnite game, more fans came in and played a trick with the Leafs stars.
Uh, we are one little jealous, we swear.
However, this is not the first time that Hyman enjoys playing with fans.
About an hour into the game, the audio issues got even worse, with Marner’s flow turning into a robotic-sounding hazy mess.
“Everyone’s ripping off my mic, what’s up with that?” Marner finally noted.
And they did.
“It looks like the upside down monster,” one fan exclaimed in the chat.
“My god, you look like a demon,” added another.

Eventually, Marner was forced to turn off his feed completely to root out the problem.
Beyond the audio issues, the actual game was also quite chaotic.
But with smiles on everyone’s faces, it was only light fun.
And despite the many streaming issues, fans were quite happy to get live content from the Leafs during this current NHL hiatus.

Marner announced that now that they are “chilling out” he may start streaming more on Twitch.
So if you miss hockey as much as you clearly miss the Leafs, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more chaotic fun in the future.
